Women's Residential Program

Project COPE’s Women’s Residential Program is a six-month 25-bed inpatient substance abuse treatment program for specifically for women. It incorporates individual and group counseling, alcohol and drug education, vocational planning, Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and recreational activities to provide structure and encourage individual responsibility.

Since its beginning in 1985, the program has served several hundred women 17 years of age and over. Women of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic circumstances, and age groups make up a diverse group in the house. All have one thing in common—addiction.

COPE’s unique residential program provides inpatient care for pregnant, substance-abusing women, and for the post-partum substance-abusing women and their newborns. A variety of services are available for pregnant and post-partum women, as well as a stimulating nursery for the infants.

An important aspect of the program is encouraging the residents to develop supportive relationships—with family, in AA and NA, and among themselves. For these residents, all of whom have been abused—physically, sexually, and/or psychologically, creating a healthy relationship is a monumental task. The efforts begin in the house, in groups and individual counseling, residents learn there are people who care. It is difficult for many of them to believe that they are not in danger anymore.

Project COPE, Inc. also offers transitional housing for those women who may not have found housing upon their completion. Women are able to stay for a short period of time and then move on. In addition to specialized programs for women COPE offers:
